Meet Rad Boho Bunnie, Andrea Whitt

bohobunny3

I’m so excited to  introduce you to the amazing Andrea Whitt. Andrea has many things on her plate: she’s an artist, musician, blogger and frequently tours with Shania Twain in Las Vegas.

Andrea specializes in water color drawings and releases new work every Friday on her blog, Boho Bunnie. You can also browse her many beautiful and unique products through her online shop.

Ok, enough set up, I know you’re itching to learn more about this rad chick. Enjoy the interview below!

You wear many hats: you’re a blogger, fashion enthusiast, artist and musician. How do you manage to balance everything?

“Good question! I try to delegate a certain amount of time for everything I do each day, but inevitably I always feel like I leave something out. My current goal is to practice music at least 3-4 hours a day. It gets tricky trying to fit that in with writing blog posts, sharing stuff on social media, painting, going to yoga, doing photo shoots for the blog, and promoting my music career. On top of that I teach a handful of students each week and do gigs in LA when I’m not on tour with Shania Twain. Technically,, I do business related stuff from when I wake up until I go to bed, but I’m so driven by my passions that most of the time it doesn’t feel like work. It only feel like work when I can’t figure out something technical, like something in photoshop. Luckily I have a super techie bf that comes to my rescue with that kind of stuff!”

Tell us about your songwriting process.

“I’ve been arranging and composing music for strings for a while now, but only recently have I gotten into song writing. I always keep my digital recorder on me or use my phone to record a melody or lyrics I  hear in my head. I’ve been playing pedal steel guitar for about a year now and I feel like it’s so much easier to write songs on that instrument rather than a violin or viola (which are my main instruments). The pedal steel can create some very country twangy sounds or even some super trippy spacey sounds. When I discover a lick or a chord progression that I like I record that too. I use all these little recordings as like a sketch book for a larger composition.”

Can you tell us how you started working with Shania Twain? What’s it like to go on tour with her?

“I was invited to audition and I landed the gig! Our tour is only in Vegas… I’ll stay there for 2-4 weeks at a time. It’s really a dream job. Shania is an amazing person and performer, I’m so humbled and honored to be performing with her.”

How would you describe your personal style?

Bohemian-chic-rocker-glam. On any given day I could dress in all black with crazy silver jewels and wide brim black hat, or I could get super hippied out in muted colors, large flared jeans and a head band. I follow some trends but having the blog has definitely helped me hone in on my personal style. Some of my most unique items I find at the flea markets here in LA.

Who are your style icons?

“Stevie Nicks, Lana del Rey, Florence Welch. Being a musician, I really look to other female musicians for style inspiration.”

What projects are you currently working on?

“I’m always working on new material with my band Jayar. My paintings are also always works in progress. :)”

What do you like to do in your free time?

“I love going to Phish shows in the summer. My boyfriend and I also like to catch lesser-known nationally touring acts when they come to LA. There’s so many cool, intimate music venues out here! I’ve also recently gotten back into playing tennis so I’m trying to do that a few times a month.”

What are your plans for the future?

“My biggest plan for the blog this year is to make a Boho Bunnie product to sell on the blog. I have a handful of ideas; one is promised to come to fruition by the end of 2014! I also want to finish my skull and flower series…I probably want to have at least 10-15 paintings in this series by the end of the year as well. Musically, I would love to start playing with bands on pedal steel, even performing some of my own music and signing. Did I mention I’m taking vocal lessons too? For not having a day job I tend to really pack in my days. But I’m loving every minute of it.”

Wow, Boho Bunnie (cutest name ever) seems so freakin’ cool! I’m geeking out, but, seriously… girl crush. Love the article and the watercolors. Really beautiful.
